Sciatica is a painful condition, resulting in pain that refers down the back of the legs as far as the feet.
A study from 2010 shed some light on some of the risk factors involved in getting it. Learning the risk factors of sciatica may help you minimize your risk of developing it.
The study evaluated 5261 participants aged 40-60. Researchers collected data on participants’ occupational class, physical and psychosocial working conditions, body mass index, smoking, leisure-time physical activity, and history of neck and back pain.
The study found that your risk for developing sciatica was higher if you:
· Did manual labour
· Were overweight
· Smoked
· Lived a sedentary lifestyle
· Had previous neck and back pain
